Rubber sidewalks
Rubber sidewalks have 1/4 the mass and are made with post-consumer tires fromcars. The only downside is the “economics” &ldash; they are 3 times more expensive. The company’s name thathas been replacing them in 60 american cities is called, appropriately, Rubbersidewalks.
The article I came across has cast it as a balancing agent between downing old growth within city pedestrian spaces, and public safety due to distressed traditional concrete.
What is interesting is that there has obviously been a revaluation of the natural environment which led to using a green product, but for which said product is too expensive to use exclusively for all sidewalks as a matter of course.
